Querido hermano Francisco:
“Rezad por mi”. Esto fue lo que nos pediste en tu primera aparición como Papa.
Y estas líneas son, en versión epistolar, la oración que desde una pequeña parroquia de barrio te enviamos.
Una carta que nace de la reflexión interior de una comunidad parroquial sencilla, humilde, luchadora y reivindicativa, que intenta día a día mejorar en su compromiso con los que menos tienen, que por desgracia son muchos en el entorno que vivimos.
Somos la Comunidad Parroquial del Cristo de la Victoria. Residimos en Coia, un populoso barrio de origen obrero situado en la ciudad gallega de Vigo (España) construido a inicios de los 70 en la periferia de la ciudad y en el que residimos unas 30.000 personas.
Nuestras comunidades, desde los más pequeños a los adultos más veteranos, se reúnen semanalmente para compartir la fe, la oración y la vida. Y, dentro de nuestras limitaciones, intentamos ser fieles al mensaje de Jesús y estar siempre comprometidos en la lucha por un mundo más justo y fraterno.
Nos sentimos parte de una gran Iglesia que a veces no entendemos y de la que en muchos momentos nos encontramos muy alejados. Roma y el Vaticano siempre nos han parecido que estaban en las antípodas del estilo de vida que aquí intentamos vivir.
Sin embargo, con tu llegada y tus iniciales formas de hacer, reconocemos esperanzados que nos sentimos un poco más cerca.
Tal vez nunca pises nuestra iglesia, ni podamos compartir una charla contigo en nuestras comunidades, pero te escribimos porque estamos convencidos de que de alguna forma deberías saber quiénes somos. Nos gustaría, como parte de esta Iglesia que ahora encabezas, decirte qué pensamos y que valores lo que podemos aportar a la nueva época que con tu papado se acaba de iniciar y que nos parece puede ser el comienzo de un nuevo y liberador tiempo. Ya lo es, de por sí, al haber sido elegido un papa hispano-americano, jesuita y que se ha hecho llamar Francisco.
Desde que la tarde del pasado 13 de marzo te conocimos y supimos que nos querías transmitir el espíritu de Asís desde una Iglesia pobre, y para los pobres, algo está cambiando. Gestos no te han faltado para hacernos creer en ello.
Has cambiado la cruz de oro por tu vieja cruz de metal; los mármoles de la residencia oficial vaticana por los sencillos aposentos en la residencia Santa Marta. Señales que parecen decirnos: “nada de lo que no llevo, necesito”. Y no olvidamos la tradicional misa de Jueves Santo en la Basílica de San Juan de Letrán que sustituiste por una celebración pascual en un centro de menores romano, en donde lavaste y besaste los pies de 12 reclusos y reclusas, entre ellas dos mujeres, y una de ellas musulmana.
Gestos que nos son más cercanos, que entendemos mejor y que nos animan a creer que el sueño de una nueva Iglesia es posible con Francisco.
El sueño de una Iglesia resucitada que entienda el servicio más allá de ella misma, para ponerse al lado de los que, como Jesús, son víctimas de un mundo que adora al poder y al dinero.
El sueño de una Iglesia de personas iguales, donde hombres y mujeres puedan juntos desarrollar sus carismas sin limitaciones y en la que reclamamos definitivamente el protagonismo de la mujer, hasta ahora negado.
Soñamos con una Iglesia menos jerárquica y más comunitaria, democrática, liberadora y ecuménica, en la que todos tengamos algo que decir y donde la comunidad de base sea el primer lugar en la toma de decisiones.
Tenemos el sueño de una Iglesia en la que los empobrecidos de este mundo, con fe o sin ella, encuentren defensa, cobijo, dignidad y cariño.
Soñamos con una Iglesia desposeída de los símbolos de poder, que sea contraste y alternativa real a la sociedad opulenta que se nos está imponiendo.
Retos, todos ellos, que tienes entre tus manos y que necesitan soluciones. La Iglesia no puede seguir dando respuestas antiguas a problemas nuevos.
Por eso también te pedimos para que afrontes otras realidades urgentes. Que tengas la sabiduría y la valentía de elegir a los compañeros de viaje, con la renovación de la curia romana, situada en clave de servicio verdadero a la Iglesia de los pobres, y no sumergida en luchas internas por el poder, ni más preocupada de las finanzas de la Banca Vaticana que de las personas.
Queremos que se siga limpiando la Iglesia de sus pecados y que no bajes la guardia en los lamentables casos de abusos protagonizados por una parte del clero. Ni queremos que el Vaticano sea la nueva Inquisición que castiga a los mejores pensadores del catolicismo, a algunos de nuestros teólogos que públicamente han sido humillados por sus comprometidas reflexiones. Todos y cada uno tenemos una voz que merece ser escuchada y no amordazada.
En fin, querido Francisco, oramos por ti, como ves, desde esta comunidad parroquial del Cristo de la Victoria. No sabemos si será o no necesario un nuevo Concilio Vaticano. Pero si estás dispuesto a oír lo que tu Iglesia opina, y abrir ventanas, aquí nos tienes dispuestos a ayudarte en la tarea.
San Francisco de Asís, allá por 1205, tuvo una visión delante de la cruz, cuando el Señor le dijo: “Ve, Francisco, y repara mi Iglesia en ruinas”. Francisco se puso manos a la obra y restauró el tempo de San Damián. Pero de pronto comprendió que el mandato no era restaurar un edificio, sino cambiar la Iglesia.
