EL NIÑO, LA MULA Y EL BUEY EN EL ESTABLO
Los evangelios no hablan del buey y la mula que habrían estado en el pesebre junto a Jesús sobre las pajas. Pero la tradición habla de ellos. Su historia es conmovedora y encanta a niñas y niños, a personas sencillas y contemplativas. Y en estos tiempos de Diálogos de paz, de respeto a las diferencias, de convivencia en la diversidad adquiere un significado especial.
Vamos a contar la verdad de esta historia antigua con una mirada de fe, con la vivencia de los místicos y seguidores de Jesús.
Un campesino tenía un buey y una mula muy viejos e inservibles para el trabajo en el campo. Se había encariñado con ellos porque le habían prestado muchísimo servicio. Le habría gustado que muriesen de pena natural, pero día a día se consumían en su flacura, en su vejez. Así que resolvió llevarlos al matadero y poner fin a su vida. Cuando tomó la decisión se sintió muy mal y no consiguió dormir en toda la noche, su conciencia algo le reprochaba…
El buey y .la mula notaron algo raro en el ambiente. Movían inquietos sus osamentas sin poder dormir, sentían miedo…la vida había sido dura, pasar por tantos dueños y de todos habían recibido muchos palos, era su condición de animales de carga! Pero siempre servían fieles a sus amos.
Hacia la media noche, de repente sintieron que una mano invisible los conducía por un estrecho camino hacia un establo. Un místico y contemplativo diría, es una experiencia espiritual! La mula y el buey decían entre sí: Ahora qué nos obligarán hacer en esta noche fría? Ya no tenemos fuerzas para trabajar.
Fueron conducidos a una gruta donde había una lucecita trémula en una pesebrera. Pensaron que podrían comer algo de heno. Pero oh sorpresa! Quedaron maravillados cuando vieron recostado en un pesebre, sobre las pajas, titiritando de frío, un hermoso niño recién nacido. Un hombre inclinado, José, procuraba calentar al niño con su aliento y en otros momentos, su madre, María lo alimentaba tiernamente.
El buey y la mula comprendieron inmediatamente su vocación, su misión. Debían calentar al niño con su aliento propio. Acercaron sus hocicos y la madre sintió miedo, que van hacerle al niño? Pero los deja libres! Deja que se acerquen.
La mula y el buey percibieron la belleza de este niño, su irradiación penetraba en sus viejos esqueletos, muy profundo pasaba algo en sus vidas, se estremecieron de emoción y sintieron un fuerte vigor interno. Con sus hocicos, bien cerquita de este niño humilde y sencillo, empezaron a respirar lentamente sobre él y así se fue calentando.
El ambiente del establo a pesar de la nieve y del frío en la región, por dentro era precioso, pobre y humilde, acogedor y cariñoso, nunca se habían sentido tan bien recibidos. De repente, el niño abre los ojos. “Ahora va a llorar” dijo la mula y el buey, “verás que le asustaron nuestros feos hocicos y nuestra osamenta envejecida”. El niño, por el contrario, los miró con gran amor, sonreía como agradeciendo la cercanía de estos amigos. Extendió la mano pequeña para acariciar sus hocicos. Y seguía sonriendo, Dios estaba complacido!
El “niño ríe y está feliz” dijo José a María. No para de reir , es una alegría profunda! Debe ser que le hizo gracia el hocico de la mula y el buey. María quedó callada, acostumbraba a meditar y contemplar, guardar estas cosas en su corazón, sabía que era un milagro de su divino niño, ver la felicidad de la mula y el buey.
El hecho es que los propios animales se sintieron transformados. Nadie les había reconocido ningún mérito en la vida y aquí en el silencio y la sencillez, estaban calentando al Señor del universo, al Dios Amor encarnado y en forma de niño.
Cuando volvían hacia casa notaron que otros burros y bueyes los miraban con un aire de admiración. Estaban tan felices que al avistar la casa, hasta se arriesgaron a un galope que hacía años no lo podían hacer. Se dieron cuenta de que realmente estaban llenos de vitalidad, de vida nueva! No podían resistir, hay que volver al establo y permanecer junto al niño.
Por la mañana vino el patrón para llevarlos al matadero. Ellos lo miraron compungidos, como diciendo: “Déjanos vivir un poco más, queremos otra oportunidad a pesar de nuestros años” El patrón los miró sorprendidos y dijo: “Pero, son estos mis viejos animales? Como es que están tan vigorosos, con la piel lisa, las patas firmes y fuertes, los ojos brillantes, están transformados!
Y dejó que se quedaran durante años y años. La mula y el buey seguían sirviendo a su patrón con gran generosidad. Pero él siempre se preguntaba: “Dios mío, quién los transformó de repente en jóvenes y robustos a aquella mula y el buey?
El patrón no fue al establo! No podía entender lo que pasaba! Sólo los niños, los contemplativos con un corazón sencillo, pueden darte la respuesta, aquellos que se acercan al establo para ver al niño con ojos de fe, con amor sincero, con la esperanza de que el Dios Niño puede hacer “Otro mundo posible”.
