y sentir abrazos en el umbral después de una cena con amigos.
Llegar a casa es pensar en meterse en la cama
es una ducha calentita después de un día horrible
es una intimidad buscada
y un rincón que habla de tus perversiones.
Llegar a casa es volver a los recuerdos,
a los proyectos.
Tirarse sobre el sofá más cómodo que existe
y bajar las persianas en días de malas madrugadas.
Llegar a casa también es contemplar fotos de los ausentes
con sonrisas de vacaciones.
El baño en el que echas las horas
Los ruidos que nadie escucha
Cantar en alto en el pasillo
Y pasear sin ropa para coger algo de la cocina
Llegar a casa es ser tú
Y solo tú,
porque en casa no hay excusas para no encontrarse.
Y hay quien entra a su casa por la ventana
Y quien tiene un colchón y un cartón por morada
Tengo el bolsillo lleno de llaves
pero mi casa está en vuestras miradas.

Nico
Tiene ojos abiertos al mar y un corazón inmenso lleno de humedades.
Dos relojes para controlar todo aquello que posee (el tiempo) y unas zapatillas que resisten un bombardeo, las cuestas de su ciudad y la escalada hacia su hogar.
Pero tiene dos relojes por si alguno falla y se le escapa entre los minutos su rutina de superviviente: el café, la ducha, la colada y los talleres de Médicos del Mundo, la comida del albergue, el bocateo, la hora que encienden las farolas, la salida de misa, la propina del padre Tomás.
Todo tiene su horario, Nico más.
No hay otra para seguir; y para atarse a la vida se ajusta a su muñeca los dos relojes.
Historias de voces y ventanas rotas, jeringuillas por los suelos y miradas huidizas.
Nico es un gran conocedor de todos los pisos vacíos del centro de Vigo, “lo primero es comprobar el tejado” y su propósito para este año es salir de la calle donde llegó “por querer saber por qué estaba prohibido lo prohibido”.
Salir de la calle.
Salir de la calle…
Pero si a la calle se sale, ¿cómo se sale de ella?
¿cómo se sale de la salida?
Depende del punto de partida,
la óptica,
las dioptrías y graduación de la vida.
Alrededor de la la céntrica Plaza del Rey, donde está ubicado el Ayuntamiento, Nico se apoya en una valla y contempla cómo de uno en uno y cada tres minutos, van saltando hacia el descampado varios jóvenes con aspecto de tener que estar a esas horas en clase. Es martes. 11 de la mañana. “Van a ponerse un chute, venid a ver”.
Saltar la valla es fácil, lo complicado es observar la realidad en mitad de la ciudad, sin escondites, sin oscuridades, a plena luz del día. A la cara, sin gafas de sol y frente al Ayuntamiento.
“Perdón” nos dicen los chavales al ser conscientes de tener una jeringuilla que atraviesa su piel y un hilo de sangre por el brazo que corta su semana, “perdón, chicas, perdón por el espectáculo”. Sonríen con vergüenza.
Un inusual Vigo soleado se desangra por las venas de gente demasiado joven para querer vivir tan deprisa,
querer morir. A plena luz del día y sin gafas de sol.
Otra cuesta arriba.
Nico vive a mano de todo lo esencial, “lo que me interesa como la sede de Médicos del Mundo o el bocateo, y lo que no, las esquinas donde se pinchan los chavales”. Vamos hacia su casa, nos quiere enseñar dónde vive para que contemos la situación en la que vive contemos su situación.
De camino, nos va apartando maderas en los bajos de los edificios para enseñarnos todos los choupanos (agujeros donde vive gente) que conoce, y son todos. Y son muchos. Demasiados. En una placita nos encontramos a una pareja joven con un perro a los que Nico saluda. “Os los presento, son Laura y Edu”.
Laura y Edu se conocen de la calle, comparten las horas vivas, la perra Laika, un colchón, la mirada perdida, epicentros de soledad y el deseo de salir de su situación. Llevan 5 años juntos, desde que ella tiene 18.
A Laura no le gusta que la miren, “si en vez de mirar ayudaran…”. Le gusta ir guapa vestida, con su bolso, sus anillos y su flequillo rubio. Es coqueta y su mirada huye a un lugar lejano cuando le preguntas por algo personal. Mientras, Edu tiembla un poco pero sus ojos permanecen firmes y le pone el brazo a su disposición para que ella se agarre cuando caminan.
Frente a ellos hay un tablón apoyado en una pared de un edificio del que parece sólo quedar la fachada. Edu lo mueve dejando entrever un agujero oscuro y nos invita a pasar. “Tened cuidado con los cristales, no os vayáis a cortar” advierte mientras ellos pisan con pasos de hierro. Dentro se almacena la penumbra, toneladas de basura, embases de todo tipo y rincones quemados. Hay dos plantas y ellos duermen en la de arriba, en su colchón, bajo el mismo techo que otras 7 personas. “Pero lo peor son las ratas. Me da miedo pensar que me pueden morder por la noche” dice Laura mientras acaricia a Laika tumbada en el colchón mirando al techo derrumbado… “entran por ahí” susurra señalando un agujero. Y el frío invade los huesos ya húmedos.
Cogió la perra con 3 meses y le tuvieron que poner el chip “me costó 3 euros, como un hostal” por ese apego a la fidelidad y confianza que necesita.
Isa también tenía un perro de fiel escudero, “he pasado mucho miedo, sola en la calle, pero lo tuve que dar porque me lo quería quitar la policía. Una señora decía que era peligroso…”. Con unas oscuras gafas no consigue esconder unos evidentes moratones alrededor de sus ojos y junto a Nico, a quien conoce por Médicos del Mundo, nos conducen hasta su casa.
Vive en un antiguo convento gigantesco completamente destartalado y perfecto escenario de una película de miedo. Aun es de día, pero entiendes el miedo al que se refiere, porque entras y no sabes cómo salir. El claustro es fantasmagórico, y más cuando te cuentan cuantos compañeros de la calle han muerto allí. “Y es que es muy duro aquí el invierno”.
A Isa le encantaría ser charcutera, el último oficio que ha desempeñado, “sé que es difícil ahora, pero como no tenga ilusiones me hundo. Y no puedo hacerlo porque ser mujer y estar en la calle en esta ciudad es una situación muy dura, como para estar de bajón.”
Nico
Fuera del laberinto del convento llegamos a la calle de Nico y para entrar en su casa esperamos a que no haya demasiados vecinos por la calle “no me gusta que me vean entrar y salir, aunque agradezco que me saluden siempre que me ven y que no me denuncien. Por eso no hay que armar escándalo y corresponder con la misma educación”.
Se para frente a un edificio con ventanas y puertas tapiadas “vivo en el segundo piso”. Pone un pie en un ladrillo, el otro en un cable, alcanza la ventana del segundo piso con una mano, se eleva a pulso y sube la persiana. Mete la mitad del cuerpo dentro y se le escucha enfadado. “Jo, macho, te dije que iba a venir a enseñar la casa, ¿qué haces así?”
Repite la misma operación de bajada, que no es fácil y nos dice que no podemos entrar porque hace un mes acogió a un chavalín que se había despegado de su familia por su adicción a las drogas y Nico, que sabe lo que es estar solo le dio cobijo. “Ahora se estaba metiendo y no quiere que le veais”. Volveremos después.
A Nico le gustaría ser soldador, oficio que aprendió durante su estancia en la cárcel, donde estuvo 20 años y sabe cual es el lugar con el bocata de calamares más barato y rico de la ciudad. “Esto me lo doy cuando tengo un capricho.”
Después de varias horas volvemos con Nico a su casa para intentar entrar. Quiere enseñarnos donde vive para reivindicar la necesidad de un albergue en la ciudad. Repite la operación. Espera que no haya ningún vecino y ¡alejóp!. Entra a su casa tras escalar dos pisos por la fachada. Mete la mano por al ventana rota, la abre y luego subimos nosotras. La dignidad de su hogar, las maletas a modo de somier, la mesita con sus cosas, la ropa ordenada en el armario. Es una habitación de cinco metros cuadrados perfectamente organizados. He visto casas más acomodadas con más mierda debajo de la cama. Aquí no hay suciedad, Nico es un hombre pulcro, ordenado, al que le gusta mantener limpito su hogar “aunque se me caiga la mitad”. Literalmente, hace un mes se le cayó la mitad de la casa mientras dormía “pero ni me moví, hacía tanto frío…” Ahora, si levantas una tela que parece separar dos estancias, puedes caer en el abismo de un vertedero. La casa se puede venir abajo en cualquier momento, el techo desconchado y la madera agrietada del suelo hacen temer cada segundo por la estabilidad del edificio. A cada paso tiembla la casa, tiembla el corazón. La inestabilidad de Nico y sus ganas de tener un hogar en condiciones. “Siento si te esperabas otra cosa, esto es lo que hay”. Con su vida pendiente de un hilo, sonríe y agradece a los vecinos de su calle que no le denuncien y le saluden amablemente.
Pasear con Nico es conocer los entresijos que nadie quiere ver de una ciudad, la cara B. Se detine y nos señala un edificio señorial “Mira que pedazo de edifico y todo acondicionado. Dentro tiene una cocina industrial cojonuda que anda que no se podría utilizar para nosotros… Pues está abandonado. ¿A que da pena con la cantidad de gente que estamos en la calle que no lo habiliten para nosotros? Yo le tiro alguna pedrada a la ventana cada vez que paso para que hagan oreja”. Nico estuvo de pequeño varios años interno en este edificio cuando era el Hospicio San Pelayo, mismo lugar donde se previó que se hiciera el albergue de La Gota de Leche.
Aquí quedamos con Pablo. Un maravilloso galleguito abierto, simpático y luchador como todos, que quiere que seamos partícipes de su cotidianidad de un día cualquiera entre semana.

“Por las mañanas me afeito y me lavo en el centro comercial”.
“Lo primero siempre ha sido tener la nevera llena para mis hijos”.
Yo era,
en castellano, “aspirante administrativo” y en gallego “o chaval do recaos”
“La gente cuando va a ocupar no sabe cómo quiere vivir. Yo sí. Quiero vivir bien y por eso limpio y aireo mi casa todos los días”. Con una llave abre un candado que rodea un portalón, da una pequeña patada estudiada y nos deja el paso libre. El edificio entero está ocupado, en él viven también dos chavales que no llegan a los veinte años, Bolo y Dani. La casa de Pablo, efectivamente está en buenas condiciones, “se metieron a robar todo el cobre y nos dejaron sin grifos ni cañerías”, pero se apaña, Pablo está acostumbrado a hacerlo y da sabios consejos a los chavales jóvenes que hacen caso omiso. Están a otra.
Nico Final
Ha empezado a llover y Nico se inquieta, “mi compañero ha cortado las luces de la farola esta mañana y ha dejado los cables al descubierto”. Su casa puede arder. Le ha dejado unas cintas aislantes encima de la mesilla para que aísle los cables. Le llama por teléfono y el otro no responde bien “se acaba de meter un pico y no me entiende”. Una y otra vez le repite: “¡Va a haber un cortocircuito. Se va a quemar todo. A las 20.00 dan la luz!”. El tiempo… de nuevo el tiempo, todo lo que tiene, lo controla a la perfección. El tiempo es suyo. Mira su reloj, quedan 15 minutos y le repite a gritos: “¡vamos hombre va a haber un cortocircuito. Tienes que aislar los cables!”.
“Lo siento, me tengo que ir” se disculpa y su frágil y alargada figura desaparece con angustia bajo la lluvia.
A la mañana siguiente en el desayuno de MdM, nos cuenta que su casa no ardió y Pablo le anima a que se vaya a vivir con él. Sólo queda agradecerles que nos enseñaran su dignidad, para reivindicar un albergue para hombres y mujeres, gestionado por profesionales.
Esa maravillosa dignidad que nadie quiere ver, porque a muchos les asustan los ojos perdidos abiertos al mar y los corazones con humedades.
