El 7 de setiembre, día de la independencia del Brasil, sucedió algo nuevo: las calles fueron ocupadas por movilizaciones populares convocadas a través de internet.
Las gentes salieron a caminar para protestar contra la corrupción, el debilitamiento de la educación, y a favor de la reforma agraria y la auditoría de la deuda pública, entre otros asuntos. Y pusieron el empeño para darle a las manifestaciones un carácter no partidista. Quien se atreviera a desfilar con las siglas de algún partido político sería excluido. El 7 de setiembre, pues, se unieron el Grito de los Excluidos y el grito de los indignados.
Las calles del Brasil, hasta hace poco acostumbradas a ver, en los últimos tiempos, apenas manifestaciones de evangélicos, gays y defensores de la liberación de la marihuana, volvieron a ser escenario de presión política y de reivindicación popular.
El poder reivindicativo de las redes sociales es innegable, pues tienen una capilaridad que supera a cualquier otro medio de comunicación. Y carecen de censura o de publicidad engañosa.
Sin embargo hay dos limitaciones que pueden afectar seriamente los efectos de la movilización cibernética. La primera la falta de propuesta. No basta con gritar contra la corrupción o con aprobar la limpieza llevada a cabo por la presidenta Dilma Rousseff. Es necesario exigir una reforma política y proponer criterios y métodos.
La reforma política con el actual Congreso -compuesto en su mayoría por parlamentarios capaces de absolver a una diputada federal sorprendida y filmada recibiendo soborno- es como creer que Alí Babá sería capaz de castigar a sus 40 ladrones…
Primero hay que reformar o, mejor, renovar el Congreso para, seguidamente, establecer una reforma política mínimamente decente. De modo que sean instituidos mecanismos que pongan fin a las dos hermanas gemelas madrinas de la corrupción: la inmunidad y la impunidad.
Dicha renovación debe comenzar, el año que viene, por la elección de alcaldes y concejales, todos sometidos a la criba de la Ficha Limpia, y obligados a presentar metas y objetivos, tal como lo propone el Movimiento Nuestra São Paulo.
La segunda limitación es el carácter no partidario de las manifestaciones. En sí es algo positivo, pues impide que algo nacido de la movilización ciudadana llegue a convertirse en palanca electoral de éste o de aquel partido político.
En democracia no se ha inventado nada mejor para representar los anhelos de la población que los partidos políticos. Ellos constituyen la mediación entre la sociedad y el Estado. El peligro está en que las manifestaciones no lleven a la elección de candidatos éticamente confiables e ideológicamente comprometidos con las reformas de estructuras, como la política y la agraria. O que desemboquen en algo peor: el voto nulo.
Quien tiene repugnancia de la política será gobernado por quien no la tiene. Por eso los malos políticos esperan que todos tengamos repugnancia de la política, de modo que ellos queden en paz, entretenidos con sus trapicherías, embolsando nuestro dinero y ampliando sus regalías y sus patrimonios.
Las redes sociales son hoy lo que el ágora era para los griegos antiguos y la plaza para nuestros abuelos: lugar de libre expresión, de información y de movilización. Fueron ellas las que llevaron a tunecinos y egipcios a las calles para derribar gobiernos despóticos. Son ellas las que divulgan en tiempo real las atrocidades practicadas por las tropas usamericanas en Iraq y en Afganistán.
Las redes sociales tienen, sin embargo, su lado oscuro y perverso: la prostitución virtual de adolescentes que exhiben su desnudez; el estímulo a la pedofilia; la difusión de material pornográfico; la incitación a la violencia; la propaganda de armas; el robo virtual de contraseñas de tarjetas de crédito y de cuentas bancarias.
Espero que no tarde mucho el día en que las escuelas introduzcan en sus currículos la materia Redes Sociales. Niños y jóvenes serán entonces educados en el uso de tan importante herramienta, mejorando la mirada crítica, el sentido ético y, especialmente, la síntesis cognitiva, que permita extraer sentidos o significados del flujo incesante de informaciones y datos
Gracias a internet cualquier usuario puede convertirse en sujeto político y protagonista social, abandonando el papel pasivo de mero espectador. Resta vencer el individualismo y el comodismo y salir a la calle para convertirse en fuerza política
