El sociólogo francés Alain Touraine asegura en su reciente libro Después de la crisis (Paidós 2011): la crisis o acelera la formación de una nueva sociedad o se vuelve un tsunami, que podrá arrasar todo lo que encuentre a su paso, poniendo en peligro mortal nuestra propia existencia en el planeta Tierra (p. 49.115). Razón de más para sostener la tesis de que estamos ante una situación terminal de este tipo de capital. Se impone con urgencia pensar en valores y principios que puedan fundar un nuevo modo de habitar la Tierra, organizar la producción y la distribución de los bienes, no sólo para nosotros (hay que superar el antropocentrismo) sino para toda la comunidad de vida. Este fue el objetivo al elaborar la Carta de la Tierra, animada por M. Gorbachev que, como ex-jefe de Estado de la Unión Soviética, conocía los instrumentos letales disponibles para destruir hasta la última vida humana, como afirmó en varias reuniones.
Aprobada por la UNESCO en 2003, la Carta de la Tierra contiene efectivamente «principios y valores para un modo de vida sostenible, como criterio común para individuos, organizaciones, empresas y gobiernos». Quieren ser sujetos, es decir, actores de otro tipo de sociedad en la que la economía esté al servicio de la política y la política al servicio del bien vivir, de las personas entre sí y con la naturaleza. Seguramente no basta querer. Se impone una articulación mundial, la creación de organismos que hagan viable otro modo de convivir, y una representación política ligada a los anhelos generales y no a los intereses del mercado. Hay que reconstruir la vida social.
Por mi parte veo indicios en muchas partes del surgimiento de una sociedad mundial ecocentrada y biocentrada. Su eje será el sistema-vida, el sistema-Tierra y la Humanidad. Todo debe centrarse en esto. De no ser así, difícilmente evitaremos un posible tsunami ecológico-social.
