Estimado Francisco: Hoy quiero abrirte mi corazón como compatriota, como seguidora de Jesús y como mujer enamorada de la humanidad, dispuesta a construir, junto a otros hermanos y hermanas el Reino querido por Jesús, proclamado en las bienaventuranzas y vivido hasta el extremo de dar la vida para que todos la tengan en abundancia.
Cuando el Espíritu sopló y el humo blanco anunciaba que ya había “sucesor de Pedro”, tuvimos un impulso de esperanza y una gran expectación, incluso los más escépticos, aquellos que sufríamos “por los lobos” que asechaban a Benedicto, tal como se decía unas semanas antes en las páginas de l’Observatore Romano: “Un pastor en medio de lobos”, y que llevábamos años sintiéndonos incómodos en una Iglesia demasiado institucional, lejos de la vida de la gente, una Iglesia llena de aduaneros de la fe –como te gusta llamar- que no tienen otro deporte más propicio en el que ocuparse, que dedicarse a hacer la vida imposible a sus hermanos en la fe. En esas filas hay laicos, religiosos y también algunas púrpuras.
Tengo casi 48 años; llevo 30 años viviendo con pasión y compromiso la causa de Jesús. Yo me creí sus palabras y su vida, y el Evangelio pasó a ser, hace ya tiempo mi norma de referencia y mi vida. Puedo decir que desde que nací he vivido en Comunidad. Primero con siete hermanos con los que de verdad vivíamos sanamente una Iglesia doméstica. Luego en la vida religiosa luchando por hacer comunidad y soñando con el sueño de Jesús, el amigo de los pobres, el profeta del Reino, el cantor del perdón y la misericordia. Me dediqué al mundo de la enseñanza, al mundo de los más pobres. Luego urgida por una llamada interior, entendí que debía retirarme y orar. Estuve varios años, en lo hondo del surco, aguardando la hora de Dios, dedicada al estudio y a la oración en el monasterio; auscultando en el corazón de la Palabra del Dios, e intentando dilucidar cuál era su proyecto para la humanidad.
Pasé muchas crisis. Nunca entendí que para amar, dar la vida, servir, debíamos frenar los impulsos vitales del Espíritu que nos hacen ser generosos y lanzados, en nombre de obediencias, que no pocas veces son temores y miedo a desestabilizar, deseo de contemporizar, formas mediocres de no asumir la revolución del Evangelio en la que los pobres ocupan un lugar central y definitivo.
El pan que faltaba a muchos, me despertó. Cayeron muchos muros y prejuicios. El apoyo incondicional de mis hermanas de comunidad, que con su oración, humanidad y sentido real de la acogida y la fraternidad, me ayudan a ver y a dar respuesta, ha sido y son claves en esta hora de definición y compromiso.
Francisco, hoy tengo necesidad de decirte en voz alta y clara, que necesitamos que nos confirmes en la esperanza, y que nos exijas ser fieles a nuestra opción por Jesús pobre y servidor; orante y comprometido; un Jesús que nos dijo que dar la vida es tenerla para siempre y que por eso no nos es lícito vivir con tantas seguridades, acumulando, velando obsesivamente por nuestro futuro, ¿no es cierto que el Padre del cielo cuida de cada uno como lo hace con las aves del cielo y los lirios del campo?
Cada día celebramos el memorial de Jesús. El nos pidió que siempre que nos reuniéramos recordáramos lo que él había hecho. Hoy las eucaristías están vacías, no convocan, tal vez porque no hacemos lo que Él dijo: Aún no nos arrodillamos a lavar los pies y a servir a nuestros hermanos; aun tenemos demasiados prejuicios y ponemos demasiadas etiquetas. Parece que tenemos derecho a limitar el número de los invitados al banquete… Pretendemos hacer una Iglesia elitista, lejos del drama y la urgencia de definirnos y tomar partido, como tú lo hiciste por los marginados y olvidados de la sociedad. Aun queremos estar bien con el poder y nos creemos que podemos servir a dos señores.
Francisco, necesitamos volver a lo esencial; al pan que nos une y que se multiplica cuando nos reunimos en tu nombre y a impulsos del Espíritu compartimos lo que somos y tenemos, nos damos, como Jesús, en alimento: hasta el extremo.
“No tengo ni oro ni plata” dijeron Pedro y Juan a aquel paralítico que pedía a la puerta del templo, “pero te damos lo que tenemos, en nombre de Jesús, levántate y camina”. Nosotros, no podemos hacer que la gente se ponga en pie, que recupere su dignidad, que tenga oportunidades, seguramente porque contrariamente a Pedro y Juan, nosotros tenemos demasiado oro y plata, seguridades y excusas, que demoran la llegada plena del Reino.
Francisco, creo en la Iglesia de Jesús, en el aire fresco que nos regala el Espíritu a través de tu vida; necesitamos que tu reforma vaya adelante y que nos ayudes a despertarnos para entender que la auténtica revolución hunde sus raíces en el amor, en la oración y en la bondad; es la revolución de la ternura que conduce a sanar relaciones maltrechas, curar heridas y renovar las fuerzas.
Ayuda a nuestros Pastores, los hermanos obispos; que no se olviden no solo que tienen que oler a oveja, sino que antes de pastores, fueron ovejas; exígeles que sus casas no se llamen más “palacio episcopal o Palau”, que sean, como era la tuya, una casa de puertas y corazón abierto, donde no se haga acepción de personas y dónde todos, especialmente los pobres sean los que tengan preferencia en todo.
Anima la fe de los laicos para que vivan con protagonismo y con compromiso, con honestidad la implicación en la vida social y política, que es la que puede orientar la instauración de un nuevo sistema basado en criterios de justicia que tengan en cuenta la dignidad de la personas.
Alienta a los religiosos para que seamos generosos, para que vivamos sin retener, para que entendamos que la fidelidad es siempre nueva y que nuestros compromisos adquiridos con Dios, pueden ser siempre renovados para responder mejor y con más generosidad según lo que los signos de los tiempos nos reclamen. Que como decía Pablo VI, nuestro muros sean de cristal, para que la gente pueda ver que de verdad nos amamos, y que nuestra `profesión nos hace vivir expropiados, pero de verdad, para utilidad pública. Que seamos servidores generosos y no solterones agrupados.
Que tu palabra clara y exigente, como la del Evangelio de Jesús, nos haga comprender en esta hora, que la denuncia profética debe ir acompañada de la vida, pero que debe ser contundente y veraz; ayúdanos a no temer a denunciar las situaciones de opresión, injusticia, corrupción y estafa, que se han instalado en nuestro gobernantes; que seamos implacables en la condena de la guerra, la fabricación de armas, la explotación y cualquier forma de esclavitud.
Francisco, “mi vida son mis causas, y mis causas, valen más que mi vida”. Sé que tengo incontinencia verbal y que a veces mis palabras molestan a aquellos que se han instalado en el poder y no en el servicio, ya sean políticos como jerarcas o militantes de base. Sé que el fuego y la pasión que devoraban a Jesús, animan mi vida, pero entiendo que a veces me falla la serenidad para denunciar, porque ver y tocar tanto dolor cada día; tantos dramas, tantas vidas rotas, me hace entender pro qué un día Jesús, lleno de celo por la casa de su Padre, cogió un látigo y echó a los cambista que la habían convertido en una cueva de bandidos.
Francisco; el mundo se ha convertido en esa cueva, hay demasiadas guerras, matanzas, desgracias, ambiciones, luchas de poder; cada vez un abismo más grande e insultante entre ricos y pobres, y nosotros parece ser que no va con nosotros.
Hoy te pido, te suplico, en nombre del Dios de la Vida, que nos ayudes para que todos los que nos decimos seguidores de Jesús, lo seamos de verdad; que se acaben las guerras fratricidas entre los hermanos en la fe; que se termine aquello de revisarle la vida a los otros y hacer capillitas: ¡hay tanto por hacer!, y lamentablemente todavía son muchos los que se dedican a •sacar el cuero” a sus hermanos en lugar de canalizar sus fuerzas para vivir aquellos en lo que se nos examinará el último día: Tuve hambre, tuve sed, estaba desnudo, en la cárcel…
Gracias por tu fuerza, por tu claridad, por tu cercanía. Adelante con la reforma de la Iglesia, adelante con el papel de todos como hermanos en la comunidad; adelante con no tener miedo a pensar la realidad de tantos hermanos que hoy son excluidos de la comunión y del afecto de la Comunidad y cuya incorporación activa no puede retrasarse más: todos somos hermanos, todos tenemos un sitio el corazón de Dios, nuestro Padre que tiene unas dimensiones infinitas y entrañables.
Francisco, hermano, amigo, Padre y Pastor, no te canses de hacer el bien y de hacer que tu voz potente denuncie aquello que nos impide ser y vivir con dignidad.
