A entrevista que achegamos provocou moito movemento por algunhas das posturas que defende Francisco I:

Es el lunes 19 de agosto. El papa Francisco me ha dado una cita para las diez de la mañana en Santa Marta. Yo, sin embargo, quizá por herencia paterna, siento la necesidad de llegar siempre con alguna anticipación.

Las personas que me acogen me hacen esperar en una salita. La espera es breve y , tras un momento , alguien me acompaña a subir al ascensor. En dos minutos me ha venido a la memoria la propuesta que surgió en Lisboa, durante una reunión de directores de algunas revistas de la Compañía de Jesús.

Allí surgió la idea de publicar todos a la vez una entrevista al Papa. Hablando con los demás directores , formulamos algunas preguntas que pudiesen expresar intereses comunes.

Salgo del ascensor y veo al Papa , que me espera ya junto a la puerta. En realidad tengo la curiosa impresión de no haber atravesado puerta alguna. Cuando entro a su habitación , el Papa ofrece que me siente en una butaca.

Sus problemas de espalda hacen que él deba ocupar una silla más alta y rígida que la mía. El ambiente es simple y austero. Sobre el escritorio, el espacio de trabajo es pequeño. Me impresiona lo esencial de los muebles y las demás cosas. Los libros son pocos, son pocos los papeles, pocos los objetos. Entre estos , una imagen de san Francisco, una estatua de Nuestra Señora de Luján, patrona de Argentina, un crucifijo y una estatua de san José sorprendido en el sueño, muy parecida a la que vi en su despacho de rector y superior provincial en el Colegio Máximo de San Miguel. La espiritualidad de Bergoglio no está hecha de “energías en armonía”, como las llamaría él, sino de rostros humanos: Cristo, san Francisco, san José, María
