La sorprendente elección de Bergoglio fue anticipada –de la mano de José Manuel Vidal– dos días antes por ATRIO como un deseo que era posible aunque improbable: Jorge Mario Bergoglio, ¿el nuevo Roncalli? Pero al salir el humo blanco tras solo 5 votaciones, yo —que estaba siguiendo la hora de espera en la televisión ide Repubblica.it— estaba convencido, con todos los comentaristas, de que iba a salir Scola, el cardenal dispuesto a seguir con más energía la línea agustiniana restauracionista de Ratzinger. Apostaba incluso que se iba a llamar Benedicto XVII.

De hecho estuve ya buscando su discurso en la última fiesta de San Ambrosio donde defendía como modélico el Edicto de Milán de Constantino en 313. Estaba muy triste y desesperanzado. Y pensaba empezar en ATRIO, con toda la artillería, para criticar ese pontificado de continuidad. Por eso fue una sorprendente y excitante novedad oír el nombre de Bergoglio y el de Francisco. Y trasmití rápidamente mi alegría y renovada esperanza en el post de anoche.

Pero ya matizaba que no  quería ilusionarme hasta el fanatismo y que habría que seguir siendo críticos y destapando cualquier engaño de continuismo que se quisiera encubrir con esa capa de un mito de sencillez.

Han salido ya sombras sobre la  figura de Bergogliu en los medios que no quisiéramos tapar. Sobre ellas ya habíamos hablado anteriormente en dos debates de ATRIO y podemos seguir hablando.

14-7-2010  La guerra santa contra el matrimonio homosexual. Hay 45 comentarios, muchos de ellos argentinos, donde se comentan las intervenciones polémicas de Bergoglio en este asunto, sobre todo su polémica carta a las monjas carmelitas de 22 de junio de 1910 que levantó el escándalo y que hoy sigue reproduciendo la prensas.

Pero, a pesar de todo ello, la noticia de ayer nos parece positiva y esperanzadora. También Ángelo Roncalli,  Juan XXIII, era un papa tradicionalista en muchos campos y había seguido las normas de Pío XII con exactitud. Si no, no lo hubieran elegido. Su talante de sencillez se vio desde el principio, pero hasta meses después no descubrió sus cartas estratégicas, entre las cuales convocar un Concilio. Tampoco a Francisco podemos exigirle que muestre desde el principio sus cartas de cambio, sino sólo unos signos que muestren la nueva actitud de cambio y su opción fundamental por los nombres. Demos un poco de espacio para que tome esas decisiones estratégicas (hoy no necesariamente un concilio) que muestren cómo se puede cambiar en la Iglesia en pocos años.

Entretanto, bueno será leer este Mensaje Cuaresmal de hace sólo tres semanas. ¿Alguno de los posibles candidatos había hablado tan clara y recientemente de clericalismo hipócrita? ¿Conocían los electores este texto? Seguramente no. Por eso fue posible la sorpresa.
