Achegamos un texto das Comunidades Eclesiais de Base de Managua (Nicaragua) a próposito do aniversario da morte de Romero:
El 24 de Marzo de 1980, Mons. Oscar Arnulfo Romero fue asesinado en El Salvador por haberse puesto al lado del pueblo pobre que era asesinado por un sistema injusto que hacía a los ricos más ricos y a los pobres cada vez más pobres.
Hoy, las Comunidades Eclesiales de Base de Nicaragua queremos conmemorar-celebrar el XXXII Aniversario Pascual de Mons. Romero, comprometiéndonos como cristianos a ser fieles seguidores de Jesús, como lo fue Romero.
Monseñor Romero se puso, sin ambigüedades, a la par de la gente pobre y sufrida de su pueblo y no al lado de los ricos ni de sus partidos; estuvo a la par de las madres que sufrían, de las víctimas, de las personas torturadas y asesinadas y no de sus verdugos; a la par de las organizaciones populares y de la clase trabajadora y no de los grandes empresarios.
Al igual que Romero, las CEB queremos seguir caminando al lado del pueblo que trabaja y lucha por la vida. De los campesinos, de los migrantes, de las mujeres maltratadas y de los que son víctimas de las injusticias. Porque como nos dice el mismo Mons Romero.: «Amen la verdad y amen de verdad a nuestro querido pueblo», «Es necesario acompañar al pueblo que lucha por su liberación», «Hay que seguir defendiendo la justicia social y el amor a los pobres».
Junto con Romero celebramos: La restitución de derechos que viven muchos de nuestros campesinos y campesinas al ser sujetos de su historia siendo beneficiados con el programa de Usura Cero y Hambre Cero, y comenzar a vivir con dignidad.
También nos alegramos por todas aquellas personas que han sido favorecidas con sus títulos de propiedad de manera gratuita, con el plan techo. Nos regocijamos, aunque los más ricos no lo hagan, de los muchos niños y niñas que hoy van a las escuelas sin tener que pagar nada y que reciben una merienda escolar. Celebramos que haya un programa Amor, que destina recursos a la protección de las y los niños. Celebramos el interés del estado de Nicaragua por que la Mujer nicaragüense pueda tener el espacio debido y que su voz sea tomada en cuenta y escuchada en todos los estratos de la sociedad.
También nos seguimos comprometiendo a transformar nuestra realidad con todo aquello que esté a nuestro alcance para dignificar la vida de los más pobres de nuestros barrios y comunidades con los proyectos de vida que nuestras CEB brindan.
Mons. Romero fue un profeta en su tiempo, la señal de identidad de un profeta es que no habla en nombre propio, sino en nombre de Dios y en nombre del pueblo. Y Mons. mismo nos lo recuerda: “predicación que no denuncia el pecado, no es predicación del Evangelio”. También nos recuerda que “cada uno de ustedes tiene que ser un micrófono de Dios, cada uno de ustedes tiene que ser un mensajero, un profeta”.
Con el espíritu de Romero, fiel a Dios siendo fiel al Pueblo, queremos denunciar las injusticias, buscando el cambio de la realidad económica, política y social de nuestra Nicaragua.
Denunciamos con Romero: La corrupción en algunas instituciones del estado que en vez de servir al pueblo, se sirven a costillas de él. En los programas sociales del gobierno sigue habiendo gente que busca beneficiar sólo a los suyos sin tener en cuenta a la gente que más lo necesita o por clientelismo o amiguismo. Es necesario escuchar estas palabras de Romero: «Los oportunistas y ambiciosos abundan; pero todo esto es un reto que el pueblo plantea al nuevo Gobierno que, de veras, seleccione bien a los hombres, militares o civiles, que han de dar una nueva cara al Gobierno» (21 de octubre de 1979).
Denunciamos a aquellos falsos pastores de nuestras iglesias que en vez de estar al lado del pueblo pobre se comprometen en banquetes al lado de los ricos y que por medio de sus falsas homilías siguen adormeciendo a nuestra gente: “Una religión de misa dominical pero de semanas injustas no le gusta al Señor. Una religión de mucho rezo pero con hipocresías en el corazón no es cris tiana. Una Iglesia que se instalara sólo para estar bien, para tener mucho dinero, mucha comodidad, pero que olvide el reclamo de las injusticias, no se ría la verdadera Iglesia de nuestro divino Redentor.” (4 de Diciembre de 1977).
Con Romero denunciamos la explotación indiscriminada de nuestros recursos naturales: «Es espantoso oír por todas partes que va escaseando la gasolina, que el aire se está corrompiendo, que no hay agua, que hay regiones de nuestra capital donde el agua apenas llega por minutos y a veces nada, que los manantiales de agua se están secando, que ya aquellos ríos pintorescos de nuestras montañas han desaparecido. La alianza del hombre con Dios no se está cumpliendo porque el hombre es el señor de la naturaleza y se está convirtiendo en un explotador de la naturaleza» [3 de junio, 1979].
En nuestra sociedad, en pleno siglo XXI las mujeres siguen siendo víctimas de un sistema machista que la excluye, la explota y la asesina por simplemente ser mujer. Seguimos preguntándonos con Romero: «¿Por qué continúa, en un país civilizado, la discriminación de la mujer? ¿Por qué no va a tener igual sueldo si trabaja igual?» (8 de julio de 1979). Y nosotros agregamos: ¿por qué seguimos tan cómodos sabiendo que la mujer sigue siendo asesinada, sigue siendo maltratada? Como cristianos de CEB tenemos que hacer algo para detener esto.
Queremos destacar la indudable vigencia de Mons. Romero y su pensamiento, su amor apasionado a Jesús y su compromiso por el pueblo. Él, por ese amor inquebrantable a Jesús y al pueblo, tuvo el coraje de asumir su misión y de dar luces al pueblo.
Hoy, más que nunca, Monseñor Romero nos recuerda que es necesario abrir los ojos y analizar lo que sucede a nuestro alrededor. En nuestra Nicaragua, este año se vivirá un proceso de elecciones municipales. Queremos hacer un llamado de atención a nuestro pueblo. Que se organice para la búsqueda del bien común, porque «El pueblo debe ser el artífice de su propia sociedad. Ustedes tienen que darse la sociedad que ustedes quieren: democrática, socialista, comunista. Son ustedes, el pueblo» [11 de noviembre, 1979].
No nos dejemos engañar por algunos que dicen que los cristianos y cristianas no nos tenemos que meter en política. “No es voluntad de Dios que unos tengan todo y otros no tengan nada” [10 de septiembre, 1978]. «Cada uno debe ser un hombre, una mujer crítica. ¡No se dejen llevar, no se dejen manipular! Son ustedes, el pueblo, el que tiene que dar la sentencia de justicia a lo que el pueblo necesita» (16 de diciembre de 1979).
Y seguimos caminando con Romero gritando junto al pueblo:
“El grito de liberación de nuestro pueblo ya nada ni nadie lo puede detener”
“Solo la justicia puede ser la raíz de la paz”
“Hay que seguir defendiendo la justicia social”
