En nuestra sociedad, occidentalizada, cada vez más globalizada y aburguesada en su ideal de vida, las tradiciones navideñas tienen varios elementos muy conocidos: Santa Claus, luces, árboles, y sobre todo, consumo. No es que todo esté mal, pero esas tradiciones no tienen nada que ver con las tradiciones bíblicas sobre el nacimiento de Jesús de Nazaret.

Por otra parte las tradiciones bíblicas, la esperanza de justicia y reconciliación de los bellos relatos de Isaías, y la esperanza del shalom de las narraciones de san Lucas, tampoco tienen nada que ver con las tradiciones navideñas que hoy imperan.

Por decirlo en breves palabras, el comercio y el consumo navideño, el mundo de los negocios, no tienen nada que ver con la Biblia, que es palabra de Dios, y con la liturgia, que es la celebración de los cristianos.

Que estas cosas puedan cambiar, lo damos prácticamente por imposible y por eso no vamos a hablar más de ello. Pero siempre queda la esperanza de que la palabra de Dios y la celebración de los cristianos nos ilumine y anime.

Justicia. Es necesaria y está enterrada; es nítida y está maquillada. A veces con razones aparentemente buenas: «Hoy basta con hablar de solidaridad», y a veces con razones claramente malas: «Hablar de injusticia es cosa del pasado». Y sin embargo, no hay navidad cristiana sin hablar de la palabra de Dios, y no hay palabra de Dios sin hablar de justicia.

Los salmos nos recuerdan que «la paz y la justicia se besan», que dejemos de hablar de paz, si no ponemos manos a la obra y construimos un país justo.

Las tradiciones mundanas no saben de estas cosas.

Comercio y mercado son dioses, y quiera Dios que no sean ídolos que producen víctimas, apoderándose del dinero de los pobres y adormeciendo a todos.
