"Legado da crise, cal é o mellor sono?"
La crisis actual está destruyendo el horizonte de esperanza de gran parte de la humanidad, especialmente de los jóvenes. Hay un vacío de sueños y de causas capaces de movilizar a las personas. Miguel d’Escoto, Presidente da Asamblea General de la ONU, decía recientemente, siguiendo a J. Stiglitz, Nóbel de economía: «El legado de esta crisis será una batalla de alcance global en torno a ideas, mejor dicho, en torno a cuál sueño será mejor para la humanidad y para la Tierra».
Todo generalmente comienza desde abajo, de algo que parece insignificante pero que está en la dirección correcta y trae consigo las potencialidades de lo nuevo. Estas eran las ideas que me venían a la mente cuando participé del 12 Encuentro Intereclesial de Comunidades Eclesiales de Base en Porto Velho, Rondonia, a mediados de julio. Había más de tres mil personas, representantes de las cerca de cien mil comunidades, venidas de todos los rincones de Brasil. Durante tres años, mediante buenas ayudas, se prepararon, estudiando los problemas ecológicos y sociales de la Amazonia. El tema se formuló así: «Del vientre de la Tierra, el grito que viene de la Amazonia».
Participé en grupos y en las plenarias. Quedé extasiado con su nivel de conciencia acerca de las cuestiones ecológicas locales y globales, sobre el calentamiento global y la tragedia que puede suceder a toda la humanidad si no cambiamos nuestro modo de ser. Lo que más les preocupaba era el impacto de los grandes proyectos que están previstos para la Amazonia: más de 50 hidroeléctricas, empresas mineras, siderúrgicas y apertura de carreteras. Les producía indignación el avance del agronegocio y de la industria agropecuaria en la selva amazónica y en el cerrado. Curiosamente, se daban cuenta de que tales macroproyectos están dentro da lógica del modelo de crecimiento, atrasado, que se impone de arriba abajo, sin dialogar con las poblaciones locales, indígenas, siringueros, ribereños, palenqueros (descendientes de esclavos liberados) y otros. Resisten, bloquean caminos, cercan las obras para obligar a los directores a dialogar con ellos. Saben que tales proyectos se llevarán a cabo sin ninguna consideración, pero quieren demostrar que se puede hacer de otra manera y buscando alternativas menos agresoras de la naturaleza.
Se analizaron en detalle los cinco gritos que irrumpen de la Amazonia: el grito de los pueblos originarios, obligados a trasladarse y a perder sus tierras, tradiciones y culturas; el grito de la tierra, apropiada ilegalmente y devastada por la ganancia de lucro; el grito de las aguas, muchas de ellas contaminadas por el mercurio de la minería a cielo abierto, matando peces y privando de su subsistencia a los ribereños; el grito de las selvas derribadas. Para ellos estaba claro que el problema no es el suelo que es pobre, sino lo que está encima, como las plantas, los animales, los millares de insectos, en fin, la biodiversidad. La misión de la Amazonia no es ser tierra para soja, caña de azúcar o ganado, sino mantenerse en pie a fin de garantizar el equilibrio de los climas mundiales, asegurar la humedad a regiones lejanas alcanzadas por los “ríos voladores” que salen de las selvas, pues cada árbol grande lanza a la atmósfera cerca de 300 litros de agua en forma de humedad la día, el grito de las ciudades, el 40% sin agua corriente y el 80% sin alcantarillado.
Se sacaron conclusiones claras: las CEBs no deben ser sólo comunidades eclesiales sino también ecológicas de base, cosa que está presente en la propia sigla CEBs. Hay que asumir la florestanía, es decir, cómo ser ciudadanos de la floresta preservada y apoyar a los movimientos populares y partidos políticos ligados a la transformación social.
En esos cuatro días resonaba por todas partes el lema africano que dijo el extraordinario obispo de la selva, don Moacyr Grechi: «gentes sencillas, haciendo cosas pequeñas en lugares poco importantes, unidas, hacen cosas extraordinarias». Y la gente de las CEBs está haciendo milagros. Por aquí hay camino y un futuro-semilla para la humanidad.
Dios no planta árboles, decía el obispo, planta semillas. Entre ellas están las CEBs: semillas de lo nuevo.
