En mayo se reunirá en Aparecida (Brasil) la V Conferencia General del Episcopado Latinoamericano y, según noticias de prensa, antes de esa fecha saldría la notificación emanada por la Congregación de la Fe de que el jesuita Jon Sobrino no podría enseñar, y se le retiraría la autorización de publicar, por sus errores en la interpretación de la fe.

Así como Gustavo Gutiérrez es el que se ha dedicado infatigablemente a desentrañar la perspectiva liberadora en la teología desde su Teología de la liberación (1971) hasta En busca de los pobres de Jesucristo (1992), Sobrino es el que la ha desarrollado sistemáticamente, sobre todo en la Cristología, que es el punto central en el cristianismo.

Sus libros más emblemáticos son Jesucristo Liberador y La fe en Jesucristo. Él, entre otros, ha repuesto en la teología el lugar central de la persona real Jesús de Nazaret y de la causa de su vida: el Reino de Dios, cuyos destinatarios privilegiados son los pobres.

Doctorado en Alemania, su teología es muy rigurosa, tanto en la conceptualización como en la lógica argumentativa. Las dos bases de su teología son la realidad, lugar del encuentro con Dios y el seguimiento de Cristo, que es seguimiento de su misma causa, y la Biblia, sobre todo los evangelios, lugar donde está plasmada la acción de Dios con su pueblo y sobre todo la vida de Jesús, revelación a la vez del Padre y del ser humano. Una insistencia suya es que la salvación universal sólo se logra desde la salvación de los pobres y la Biblia se abre desde el compromiso con ellos, como participación de la opción de Dios.

Todo esto no sólo es perfectamente ortodoxo sino absolutamente pertinente para el mundo de hoy. Conocemos bien las obras de Jon Sobrino y no creemos que afirme algo que contradiga la ortodoxia. Otra cosa es que no diga todo, porque nadie puede decir todo y porque si siempre se dice todo nunca se dice nada. Además, cada quien debe hablar a la medida del don recibido. Si no, el lenguaje carece de sujeto y es por tanto vacío e inútil. A todos se pueden acusar de lo que no dicen. Por ejemplo la mayoría de las cristologías son elucubraciones que no nacen de la vida de Jesús, más aún son subrepticiamente heréticas (apolinaristas) porque sólo toman en cuenta el cuerpo de Jesús para que pueda padecer por nosotros.

Sobrino es también mundialmente conocido por su compromiso con la Iglesia salvadoreña al lado del obispo mártir, monseñor Oscar Arnulfo Romero. Y tiene obras de espiritualidad muy nutritivas, como Liberación con Espíritu o Principio-misericordia.

Esperamos para bien de la Iglesia latinoamericana y universal que no se consume la condena.
