A segunda Flotilla pola Liberdade fai unha chamada aos gobernos para que protexan aos seus ciudadáns a través deste comunicado:

La coalición internacional de la segunda Flotilla de la Libertad hace un llamamiento a los respectivos gobiernos de las iniciativas que la conforman para que adopten medidas concretas para garantizar la seguridad de sus ciudadanos y evitar la repetición del asalto letal que tubo lugar en la pasada Flotilla. El 31 de mayo de 2010, la marina de guerra israelí atacó a un convoy marítimo humanitario en el camino de la entrega de la solidaridad y de la ayuda a la población asediada residente en la Franja de Gaza, matando a 9 civiles. En mayo de este año, una nueva flotilla se dirigirá a Gaza para romper y poner fin al ilegal bloqueo que sufre. Los organizadores de esa misión se reunieron en Amsterdam este fin de semana pasado para seguir con su preparación.

Los gobiernos de todo el mundo condenaron el ataque de Israel sobre la Flotilla de la Libertad en aguas internacionales. La Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la ONU condenó el brutal y desproporcionado tratamiento de los civiles a bordo de los buques. “Existe una clara evidencia para apoyar el enjuiciamiento de los siguientes delitos dentro de los términos del artículo 147 de la IV Convención de Ginebra: el homicidio intencionado, la tortura o los tratos inhumanos…  según la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la ONU que investigó los hechos.

El Comité Internacional de la Cruz Roja considera que el bloqueo israelí de la Franja de Gaza es ilegal porque constituye un castigo colectivo a los civiles palestinos de la franja Gaza. El informe de la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la ONU afirmó que “el bloqueo es ilegal y no puede ser sostenido en ninguna ley (….) independientemente de los motivos.” Los gobiernos están legalmente obligados a respetar y actuar en contra de violaciónes de la ley y los tratados internacionales de derechos humanos. Esto incluye no sólo el bloqueo de la Franja de Gaza y la violencia en curso contra la población civil allí, sino también la colonización de Cisjordania, la limpieza étnica de Jerusalén Oriental, y la construcción del muro de separación, declarado ilegal por la Corte Internacional de Justicia en 2004. Sin embargo, la comunidad de estados vergonzosamente obvía los crímenes de Israel en lugar de actuar para detenerlos.

“La misión humanitaria de la Flotilla de la Libertad 2 es una respuesta no violenta al silencio ensordecedor de nuestros gobiernos”, dice Benji de Levie, portavoz de la delegación holandesa. “Cualquier intento – político o militar-para obstruir o impedir la llegada de la Flotilla de la Libertad en el puerto de Gaza es un acto de violación del derecho internacional y debe ser tratado como tal por nuestros gobiernos.” De Levie: “A la luz de las actuales protestas pacíficas de los ciudadanos en Oriente Medio, esperamos que nuestros gobiernos seán coherentes en su política exterior que condena todas las formas de violaciónes de derechos humanos contra las iniciativas en favor de la paz y la justicia por parte de la sociedad civil. ”

Los preparativos en todas las regiones involucradas (Europa, América del Norte, Norte de África, Asia, América del Sur y Australia) trabajan de manera coordinada de acuerdo a lo programado. Aproximadamente 15 buques transportarán carga y más de mil viajeros en la siguiente Flotilla de la Libertad que navegará en Mayo. Entre ellos estarán periodistas, políticos, artístas, cooperantes y activistas en favor de los derechos humanos. Las campañas de apoyo por parte de la sociedad civil en los diferentes territorios siguen creciendo como lo demuestra por ejemplo la campaña española Rumbo a Gaza, que tiene programados mas de 15 conciertos en diferentes ciudades del estado español.
