Este sábado, día 9 de xuño, na Praza da Princesa de 11 a 20 horas varias ONGs convídannos a celebrar o Día do Comercio Xusto e do Consumo Responsable.

Para festexalo haberá obradoiros (abalorios, refugallo, contacontos, maquillaxe, globoflexia …), postos de venta de produtos de comercio xusto, sorteos e degustación así como diversos postos informativos das distintas ONGs que participan.

O maior desafío do século XXI é a fame: vivimos nun mundo onde se producen alimentos abondo para todos e todas pero mil millóns de persoas cada noite se van durmir con fame. A maioría vive en países en desenvolvemento e a súa situación é consecuencia dun sistema alimentario terriblemente inxusto e un sistema produtivo que esgota, destrúe e concentra en mans duns poucos os recursos naturais dos que dependemos.

O crecemento da poboación e a mellora da calidade de vida nalgúns puntos do planeta prevé que os prezos internacionais dos alimentos básicos aumenten a máis do dobre en 2030, a metade deste incremento debido ao cambio climático. A terra e a auga do planeta de verán sometidos a unha presión insostible.

Vaiamos á raíz do problema. Hoxe no mundo debemos poñer o acento en combater a desigualdade, indo máis alá da necesidade de loitar contra a pobreza. O caso da terra é un bo exemplo de inxustiza e un dos temas críticos que fallan no sistema alimentario global: a compra masiva de terras por investidores (agroindustrias, fondos especulativos) e gobernos provocou a expulsión de miles de familias campesiñas das terras onde viviron sempre, diminuíndo a capacidade de produción agrícola destes países e enviando miles de persoas á miseria. Dende 2001, nos países en desenvolvemento vendéronse ou se arrendaron ata 84 millóns de hectáreas de terra (unha superficie do tamaño de Europa Noroccidental), a maioría a investidores internacionais.

E con este acaparamento de terra cultivable non estamos a producir máis alimentos: As políticas enerxéticas dos EUA e a UE promoven o uso de agrocombustibles que implica unha extensión dos monocultivos a grande escala. Isto é parte do problema da competición pola terra. En Guatemala, por exemplo, varias rexións entrasen en conflito a causa das compras masivas de terra para cultivo da palma africana destinada á produción de agrocombustibles. E como a palma, están a cana de azucre, o millo… por exemplo: o millo necesario para producir o agrocombustible que encherá o depósito dun automóbil todoterreo equivale ao que podería alimentar unha familia durante todo un ano.

Ante esta situación non podemos quedar indiferentes. As organizacións que hoxe estamos aquí sabemos que os cambios son posibles e cremos que hai mellores formas de crecer, de compartir e de convivir. Vémolos todos os días: Aquí preto, en forma dunha cidadanía con persoas máis activas e responsables. E tamén no Sur, onde traballamos coas persoas máis desfavorecidas para que poidan vivir do seu traballo e teñan expectativas de futuro para si mesmas e as súas familias. Podemos e debemos esixir aos gobernos e investidores privados nacionais e internacionais que respecten o dereito ao acceso e tenza da terra das poboacións campesiña e indíxenas, esixirlles responsabilidades cara ás comunidades afectadas e evitar que estas situacións se reproduzan no futuro.

Non podemos permitir que no século XXI a xente siga morrendo de fame. Temos que atacar o problema de raíz. Chegou o momento de buscar alternativas e os cidadáns e cidadás de Vigo temos moito que dicir ao respecto. Se todas as persoas consumisen como nos países ricos necesitariamos seis planetas para abastecernos. Temos que ser capaces de producir e consumir de xeito sostible. É unha loita que paga a pena. Necesitamos unha nova forma de gobernar o mundo que reforme o sistema alimentario, que invista na produción a pequena escala, que apoie a agricultura familiar e que aposte por un futuro ecolóxico. Esixámola. Xuntos podemos. Será un gran cambio para o mundo.
