O pasado 10 de decembro celebrouse un novo aniversario da proclamación da Declaración Universal dos Dereitos Humanos. Cando se consolidou en España a Corrente Somos Iglesia, hai xa trece anos, redactouse un manifesto de dez puntos baseado no documento orixinal do movemento Somos Iglesia e ampliado nalgúns aspectos. O título deste manifesto é «Por unha Igrexa consecuente coa defensa dos Dereitos Humanos» (pode lerse en www.somosiglesia.net) e no primeiro parágrafo di o seguinte:

«Dende a Fe no Evanxeo traballamos cada día para que a nosa Igrexa se entregue plenamente á defensa da dignidade humana, pero nela aínda existen institucións, normas e comportamentos que contradín tal compromiso«.

El pasado 10 de diciembre se celebró un nuevo aniversario de la proclamación de la Declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos. Cuando se consolidó en España la Corriente Somos Iglesia, hace ya trece años, se redactó un manifiesto de diez puntos basado en el documento original del movimiento Somos Iglesia y ampliado en algunos aspectos. El título de este manifiesto es “Por una Iglesia consecuente con la defensa de los Derechos Humanos” (puede leerse en www.somosiglesia.net) y en el primer párrafo dice lo siguiente: “Desde la Fe en el Evangelio trabajamos cada día para que nuestra Iglesia se entregue plenamente a la defensa de la dignidad humana, pero en ella todavía existen instituciones, normas y comportamientos que contradicen tal compromiso”.

Resulta increíble que el Estado Vaticano aún no haya firmado la Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos desde que se adoptó y proclamó el 10 de diciembre de 1.948 en la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas.

No se puede oponer por parte del Estado Vaticano, que no es miembro de pleno derecho, pues sí que ha suscrito otros convenios como la Convención de Viena sobre Relaciones Diplomáticas, la Convención de Viena sobre el Derecho de los Tratados, la Convención sobre el Estatuto de los Refugiados, la Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño, la Convención contra la Tortura y Otros Tratos o Penas Crueles, Inhumanos o Degradantes, la Convención Internacional sobre la Eliminación de todas las Formas de Discriminación Racial, la Convención para la protección de los bienes culturales en caso de conflicto armado, el Convenio de París para la Protección de la Propiedad Industrial, el Tratado sobre la no proliferación de las armas nucleares y los principales tratados de desarme y los Convenios de Ginebra.

Que el Estado Vaticano no haya suscrito la Declaración no es una cuestión baladí pues el artículo 1 de la misma indica: “Todos los seres humanos nacen libres e iguales en dignidad y derechos y, dotados como están de razón y conciencia, deben comportarse fraternalmente los unos con los otros.” Si el Estado Vaticano firmase, debería inmediatamente acabar, entre otras cosas, con la discriminación milenaria a la que ha sometido a las mujeres, y debería acabar también con la estructura no democrática que ha mantenido durante siglos.

Es indudable que el siglo XX y los años que llevamos del XXI han mostrado como “signos de los tiempos” la incorporación de la mujer en igualdad de derechos a todos los aspectos de la vida social y política, la democracia como mejor sistema de gobierno de los países e instituciones, la libertad de expresión, el diálogo intercultural e interreligioso o la no discriminación por la orientación sexual. Son metas y objetivos deseables que la Iglesia acepta e incluso demanda para otros pero no vive dentro de ella.

Nos avergonzamos profundamente de que el artículo 1 de la Declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos sea más cristiano que la Iglesia a la que pertenecemos, pues lo que se propugna en él es la dignidad humana y el amor fraterno. El cristianismo no puede alejarse de la realidad de cada momento histórico y mantenerse anclado en una organización de otras épocas. Está en juego la credibilidad de una Iglesia que exige hacia afuera lo que ella misma no cumple con sus miembros.

El Concilio Vaticano II generó muchas expectativas sobre la renovación de la Iglesia, se abrieron puertas a una mayor colegialidad, a la participación de los laicos y a una apertura más amplia de la Iglesia hacia el mundo. ¡Cuántos grupos y comunidades de la Iglesia Católica viven su fe alentados por esa eclesiología que se ha ido desarrollando a partir del Concilio!

Sin embargo estos avances no se están traduciendo en cambios de fondo institucionales o del Magisterio de la Iglesia, por ello pedimos que el Estado Vaticano firme la Declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos y que la Iglesia Católica actúe en consecuencia tanto en su estructura interna como en su compromiso en contra de la injusticia y a favor de la dignidad humana.
